Human activity is the only thing that threatens Grizzly Bears. Habitat loss and trophy hunting are the direct threats that Grizzlies face on the ground in British Columbia.
A number of organizations are working hard to protect Grizzlies throughout North America. See the sidebar for some details.
Carefully managed tourism also offers an opportunity for the bears. Responsible companies operating Grizzly viewing tours demonstrate that a thriving and protected bear population has significant economic value. This is probably one of the best ways to get legislators to understand the need to expand protected areas.
